Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz. It forms when hot, mineral-rich fluids flow into cracks and hollow spaces inside rocks and slowly cool, forming tiny crystals. The purple color comes from small amounts of iron inside the crystal, along with natural radiation from surrounding rocks. Large deposits often form in hollow volcanic rocks called geodes.

Amethyst is linked with calmness and clarity, and many people associate it with helping the mind feel balanced and focused, especially during stressful times. It is also often connected with spirituality, intuition, and inner peace.  In ancient Greece, amethyst was believed to protect people from drunkenness, and its name comes from a word meaning “not intoxicated.”  Use these in stressful moments in your campaign (or for ability checks during those inevitable tavern brawls).
